titleOfInvention Artificial retina device with stimulating and ground return electrodes disposed on opposite sides of the neuroretina and method of attachment
abstract The artificial retinal device 10 implanted into the retinal space of the eye of a person having some type of retinal blindness electrostimulates the remaining cells of the retina to generate artificial vision. The artificial retina device 10 includes an unshaped extension 30 for receiving a far pole magnetic pole electrode unit that can be disposed in a vitreous body, and a pole electrode unit 12 that is preferably disposed in the lower retinal space. The pole electrode unit comprises an array of electrode subunits 22. Each electrode subunit 22 includes one or more micro photodiodes 23a electrically connected, for example, to continuously supply increased voltage and current to the microelectrodes. The stimulating electrode unit 12 and the ground return electrode 14 of the ground return electrode unit are preferably disposed opposite the neural retina to allow efficient and high interretinal resolution of the neural retinal cells.
