Antisense nucleic acid sequences have been described that inhibit proliferation of prokaryotes. Also described are cell-based assays using electric anticent nucleic acids to identify and develop antibiotics. Electric antisense nucleic acids can also be used to identify proteins required for propagation and express these proteins or portions thereof to obtain antibodies that can specifically bind to the electroexpressed proteins, Can be used to search for candidate molecules using a rational drug search program. Electronucleic acids can also be used to search for homologous nucleic acids necessary for proliferation in cells other than Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella typhimurium, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa . The electric nucleic acids of the present invention can be used in any of a variety of systems that search for genes required for propagation in other individuals. |
