Microencapsulated red phosphorus |
abstract |
A method of making encapsulated red phosphorus is disclosed. The method comprises the steps of obtaining a material system in which red particles having an average particle size of 0.1 to 100 μm are dispersed in an aqueous phase comprising urea, formaldehyde and a water-soluble silicon dioxide precursor, adding a sufficient amount of acid to the material system to pH Lowering to 0 to 5, and maintaining the resulting acid system at a temperature of 80 to 120 ℃ for more than 1 hour. The encapsulated red phosphorus of the present invention is suitable for use as a flame retardant for plastic molding compositions. |
