titleOfInvention | Spatio-temporal filter unit and image display apparatus comprising such a spatio-temporal filter unit |
abstract | Noise reduction is an important feature in consumer televisions. This is realized by time, space or space time filters. Spatial filters require pixels in one image, while temporal filters require samples in two or more consecutive images. The space-time filter unit 100 according to the present invention incorporates spatial and implicit motion compensated temporal noise reduction in one filter. In motion compensation, no motion vectors are needed. The space-time filter unit 100 has a filter kernel 107 designed to act on pixels from both the output of the space-time filter unit and the current image, which are temporally recursive filtered images. The operation of the space-time filter unit 100 may be adjusted by the selection of various thresholds and pixels of the sigma filter 112. Adjustments may be controlled by motion estimator 222, motion detector 224, and noise estimator 220. |
