abstract The present invention relates to improved promoters and their use, and more particularly to improved promoters and their use which are difficult to methylate during the preparation of transformants.n n n The improved promoter of the present invention is DNA shown in the following (1) or (2):n n n (1) DNA comprising a nucleotide sequence represented by SEQ ID NO: 1 to 4; (2) the nucleotide sequence represented by SEQ ID NO: 1 to 4 includes a nucleotide sequence in which 1 to several bases are deleted, added, or inserted at a site except for a specific site, wherein the nucleotide sequence is deleted, added, or inserted DNA that does not contain a sequential sequence represented by CG, CAG, CTG, CCG, CGG and the like and has promoter activity.n n n According to the present invention, the expression efficiency can be improved even in plants, such as chrysanthemums, where the expression of the structural gene by the 35S promoter of the cauliflower mosaic virus, which has conventionally been a high expression promoter for plants, is weak.
