In one embodiment, the invention is about -2 degrees Celsius or less, including preventing formation of ice crystals adjacent to the plant by forming a substantially continuous hydrophobic film of particulate material on parts of the plant capable of supporting water droplets. To a method of enhancing supercooling of plants to temperature, wherein the particulate material has a particle size distribution in which up to about 90% by weight of the particles have a particle size of about 100 μm or less, and the substantially continuous hydrophobic membrane It has a thickness of about 1 μm to about 1,000 μm. |
