titleOfInvention | Process for producing a purified lactic acid solution |
abstract | The present invention provides a method for preparing a purified lactic acid solution suitable for use in connection with a source of lactic acid material having a pH value of 0.8 to 9.0. The method provides a source of lactate material comprising calcium salts; Acidifying the concentrated culture with sulfuric acid to form an acidified solution comprising lactic acid and calcium sulfate; Reducing the amount of calcium sulfate from the acidification solution; Extracting the acidification solution with an amine extractant to form an impurity-containing solvent; And back extracting the impurity-containing solvent with an aqueous solvent to provide a purified lactic acid solution. If desired, the source of lactate material may be concentrated before the acidification step. Alternatively, the amine extractant may comprise sulfate anion. The sulfate anion in the amine extractant is the residual sulfuric acid from the acidification step. Separately, sulfuric acid in the amine extractant may be further added, such as sulfuric acid during the extraction step. |
