The present invention relates to derivatives of 9-hydroxypiopobiide a which can be used as photosensitizers in photodynamic therapy, which is a method of cancer treatment. In the piophytin a from which metal ions of chlorophyll a were removed, the carbonyl group of carbon 9 was reduced to be converted to a hydroxy group, and the ester group was hydrolyzed to prepare 9-hydroxypiopodide a. 9-hydroxypiophobide a is a new photosensitizer with increased hydrophilicity and increased performance of photodynamic therapy than 10-hydroxypiophytin a. |
