Diolefin/hydroxyaryl condensates and catalyst therefor |
abstract |
A catalyst composition has been described that includes a sufficient amount of trifluoromethanesulfonic acid (also referred to as triplic acid) and a substance that does not remove but reduces the catalytic activity of the acid (also referred to as a delay agent). Also described are methods and compositions for condensation of hydroxyaryl and dienes by use of catalyst compositions. The method comprises a molar ratio of one mole of diene to one mole of hydroxyaryl by varying the temperature, reaction time, type and amount of retardant and other variables; It is possible to produce high molecular weight products such as condensates and resins having a molar ratio of 1 mole diene to 2 moles hydroxyaryl. |
