titleOfInvention Stenciling phosphor layers on light emitting diodes
abstract A method of forming a fluorescent layer on a light emitting semiconductor device includes positioning a stencil on a substrate such that a light emitting semiconductor device disposed on the substrate is positioned in an opening in the stencil, and depositing a stencil compound comprising the fluorescent material in the opening. And removing the stencil from the substrate and curing the stencil composite to a solid state. The resulting light emitting semiconductor device comprises a stack of layers comprising a semiconductor layer comprising an active region and a layer comprising a fluorescent material having a substantially uniform thickness disposed around at least a portion of the stack. The surface of the layer comprising the luminescent material that is not adjacent to the stack substantially matches the shape of the stack. In one embodiment, the light emitting semiconductor device emits white light with a uniform white spatial profile.
