abstract | The present invention provides a polymerization procatalyst, wherein a magnesium / transition metal containing alkoxide complex precursor is contacted with a halogenating agent selected from alkylaluminum halides, TiX 4 , SiX 4 , BX 3 and Br 2 , where halides and X are each halogen. Processes for the halogenation of precursors to form are disclosed, wherein when alkylaluminum halides, TiX 4 , SiX 4 and Br 2 are used as halogenating agents they are used together or in combination in a multistage halogenation reaction. The procatalyst can then be converted to an olefin polymerization catalyst by contacting with a cocatalyst and optionally a selectivity regulator to be used to polymerize the olefin in high yields with desirable properties. |
