abstract |
Manifold double-cells for electrochemical cells, such as polymer lithium ion batteries, have been provided with the method of manufacture. The hermetic electrochemical cell includes an extended planar spacer or substrate 26 formed of an elastic material. The plurality of discrete anodes 24 are spaced longitudinally apart from one another and a pair of substrates are arranged such that neighboring anodes form a sandwich structure having a substrate interface therebetween. A plurality of cathodes corresponding in size, shape and number to the plurality of anodes is also positioned so as to be separated vertically on opposite sides of the substrate in the arrangement of the anodes. The substrate is folded along the interface 30 to form a manifold device of the positively and negatively stacked anode and cathode. |
