titleOfInvention | Switchable holographic optical system |
abstract | An optical system 312 and an image processing and display system using the optical system are disclosed. The optical system has at least first and second optical elements 330, 332 on common axis 334. In one embodiment, each of the first and second optical elements can operate in an active or inactive state and includes a photopolymer and liquid crystal combination 12. Each of the first and second optical elements is configured to pass incident light in a substantially unchanged state when operating in an inactive state. However, in the active state, each of the first and second optical elements does not pass the incident light in a substantially unchanged state. Rather, each of the first and second optical elements substantially alters the light incident upon it when operating in the active state. |
