abstract |
The present invention provides a compound which inhibits the peptidyl-prolyl isomerase (rotamase) enzyme activity of FK-506 binding protein (FKBP) and a composition comprising the compound. FKBP inhibitory compounds have bicyclic [3.3.1], [4.3.1] or polycyclic azaamide nuclei. Pharmaceutical compositions containing this compound help to stimulate neurite outgrowth and enhance nerve regeneration in nerve cells. Methods of treating neurons with this composition are useful for promoting repair of neuronal damage due to disease and physical trauma. |
