abstract | A method for reducing the carboxybenzaldehyde isomers in the preparation of terephthalic acid and / or isophthalic acid is described. Under conditions of normal temperature and atmospheric pressure, coarse TPA or IPA is dissolved in N-methyl pyrrolidone and then contacted with an oxidizing agent, such as substantially anhydrous hydrogen peroxide, to give the carboxybenzaldehyde isomer (4-CBA or 3-CBA) to Switch to IPA. |
