Silylated Double Metal Cyanide Complex Catalysts |
abstract |
The amount of high molecular weight impurities present in polyether polyols prepared by alkoxylation of active hydrogen containing initiators using a double metal cyanide complex catalyst can be advantageously lowered by reacting and treating the catalyst with a silylating agent prior to use in the polymerization. . Suitable silylating agents include trialkyl halosilanes and trialkyl alkoxysilanes. The high purity polyether polyols prepared in this way are particularly useful for the production of slab and shaped polyurethane foams which tend to collapse or become excessively hard when elevated levels of high molecular weight tails are present in the polyether polyols. |
