The present invention provides a polymeric cholesteric liquid crystal in which the cholesteric helix pitch of adjacent layers is changed by control of the movement of the nonpolymerized chiral material between the layers and the cholesteric helix axis is substantially perpendicular to the layer plane. A method of making a multilayer cholesteric film comprising at least two liquid crystal (CLC) material layers, a multilayer cholesteric film obtainable by such a process, and a polarizer, compensator, alignment layer, color filter or holo The method and the use of the multilayered cholesteric film produced thereby, for optical members such as graphic members, for cosmetics and liquid crystalline pigments, or for decorative and security purposes. |
