The present invention is a potent inhibitor of metalloprotease and provides compounds effective in the treatment of diseases characterized by excessive activity of the enzyme. In particular, the present invention relates to compounds of formula (I)n n n (I)n n n n n n n n (Wherein R 1 , R 2 , X, Z, m, and n are as defined above). The invention also encompasses optical isomers, diastereomers and enantiomers of a compound of formula I, and pharmaceutically acceptable salts, biohydrolyzable amides, esters, and imides thereof. The compounds of the present invention are useful in the treatment of diseases and disorders characterized by undesired metalloprotease activity. Thus, the present invention also provides pharmaceutical compositions containing the present compounds. The present invention also provides a method for treating a metalloprotease related disease using the present compound or a pharmaceutical composition containing the same. |
