titleOfInvention | Inherently Light- and Heat-Stabilized Polyamide and Method of Making the Same |
abstract | (a) an effective amount of at least one 4-carboxy-2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine compound represented by formula (I) and (b) an effective amount of at least one 4-amino-2 represented by formula (II) Polyamides that are essentially light and heat stabilized are prepared by polymerizing polyamide-forming monomers in the presence of a, 2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine compound:n n n <Formula I>n n n n n n n n <Formula II>n n n n n n n n Wheren n n R 1 is hydrogen, benzyl or C 1 -C 20 alkyl,n n n R 2 to R 5 are each hydrogen or the same or different C 1 -C 6 alkyl,n n n X has n free valence bond sites and is alkyl or substituted alkyl of about 1 to about 30 carbon atoms or is aryl or substituted aryl of about 6 to about 20 carbon atoms,n n n m is 0 or 1,n n n -C (O) -R 6 is a group capable of forming an amide bond with an amine,n n n n is 1, 2 or 3,n n n R 7 is hydrogen, benzyl or C 1 -C 20 alkyl.n n n The light and heat stabilized polyamides are essentially one or more radicals of at least one piperidine compound of formula I chemically bonded to the polymer backbone and at least one 4-amino-2,2 of formula II chemically bonded to the polymer backbone At least one radical of the 6,6-tetramethylpiperidine compound. Polyamides that are essentially light and heat stabilized can be used to form articles such as, for example, fibers, carpets, yarns and fabrics. |
