abstract | Particularly useful as clear coatings for use on colored base coats and having improved surface damage resistance and corrosion resistance when exposed to natural climatic conditionsn n n (a) alkyl methacrylates, alkyl acrylates, cycloaliphatic alkyl methacrylates, cycloaliphatic alkyl acrylates, styrenes, or any mixture of these monomers, each having an alkyl group of 1 to 12 carbon atoms; Hydroxy-containing monomers selected from the group consisting of hydroxy alkyl methacrylates, hydroxy alkyl acrylates or any mixtures of these monomers, each having 1 to 4 carbon atoms in the alkyl group; And 50 to 90% by weight (based on the weight of the binder) of acrylosilane polymer having a weight average molecular weight of 1,000 to 15,000 based on polymerized monomers from mono ethylenically unsaturated silane monomers and measured by gel permeation chromatography, andn n n (b) 10 to 50% by weight of organic polyisocyanate (by binder weight)n n n 40 to 70% by weight of a film forming binder, wherein the ratio of the isocyanate group of the organic polyisocyanate to the hydroxyl group of the acrylosilane polymer is about 0.4: 1 to 1.3: 1; Andn n n A coating composition is disclosed which contains 30 to 60% by weight of the volatile liquid carrier for the binder. |
