abstract | The present invention relates to novel erythromycin derivatives, in particular derivatives having novel C-13 R 13 substituents, and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof. The compounds of the present invention are useful as antibacterial and antiprotozoal agents in mammals, including humans, as well as in fish and algae, and for other uses (eg, anticancer, atherosclerosis, reduced gastric motility, etc.). The invention also relates to pharmaceutical compositions containing said compounds and methods of treating bacterial and protozoan infections by administering said compounds. The invention also relates to a process for the preparation of said compounds and to intermediates useful for said preparation. |
