titleOfInvention | Toxins active against ostrinia nubilalis |
abstract | The present invention relates to non-mamalian pests, in particular materials and methods useful for the eradication of plant pests. In certain embodiments, the present invention provides novel Bacillus thuringensis toxins useful for eradicating Lepidopterans. In a preferred embodiment, the toxins of the present invention are used to eradicate Ostrinia nubilalis, the European corn worm. The present invention further provides nucleotide sequences encoding the toxins of the invention. The nucleotide sequence of the present invention can express a pesticidal toxin of the present invention by transforming a host such as a plant. In addition, the present invention relates to novel nucleotide primers for gene identification encoding toxins active against pests. The primers are used in PCR techniques to generate gene segments that characterize the genes encoding the toxins. The primers are also useful as probes for detecting the toxin-encoding gene. |
