titleOfInvention | Method and apparatus for forming silica by combustion of liquidreactants using a heater |
abstract | The present invention relates to a method for producing silica glass and silica glass preforms. A silicon-containing compound of liquid, preferably halide-free, which can be converted to SiO 2 by thermal oxidation is provided and injected directly into the flame of the combustion burner, the flame of the combustion burner being finely divided amorphous A soot is formed to convert the compound to silica. The soot is vaporized in the vicinity of the site where the liquid is converted into silica glass by injection of a liquid, preferably into a stream of injected gas. Heaters near the burner surface and around the burner flame increase the soot capture rate and reduce the velocity of the injection gas. The amorphous soot is deposited on the receiving surface on which the soot is soaked into fused silica glass substantially simultaneously or continuously upon deposition. |
