abstract | Improved methods for preparing formylphosphonic acid derivatives are reported. The aminomethylphosphonic acid substrate is contacted with a reagent selected from the group consisting of water, alcohols, phenolic compounds, and mixtures thereof, and an oxidizing gas in the presence of a catalyst to form a formylphosphonic acid derivative-containing reaction product mixture, wherein the contact is carried out. The conditions are adjusted such that up to 50% of the formylphosphonic acid derivatives formed in the reaction mixture are consumed by reaction with the reagents. |
