titleOfInvention | Implantable delivery device with self adjustable exit port |
abstract | A first chamber containing an osmotic agent, a membrane forming a wall of the first chamber where fluid is sucked by the osmosis, a second chamber containing a useful agent to be delivered, and a movable piston separating the two chambers; A delivery device is disclosed. An orifice having a slit valve is in fluid communication with the second chamber. In the presence of pressure, a useful agent pushes through the slit to open a channel for delivery of the useful agent to generate a flow. In the absence of flow (or when the pressure is lower than the pressure required to open the slit), the slit is closed to prevent despreading of the external fluid, which prevents the useful agent in the second chamber from being contaminated by the external fluid. . In addition, when the slit is closed, forward diffusion of useful agents out of the capsule is prevented. The slit valve opens to the minimum size necessary to allow the flow generated by the osmotic pumping speed. The slit valve opens the flow passage around any obstacle therein to prevent blockage. |
