titleOfInvention Panoramic viewing apparatus
abstract The compressed high resolution omni or panoramic viewer has several cameras with a common virtual optical center. Each viewing field of cameras is arranged to form a continuous 360 degree view of the area as viewed as a whole. The cameras are positioned so that each of them views a different reflecting surface of the polyhedron, such as a pyramid. This allows each camera to have a virtual optical center located within the pyramid. The cameras are positioned so that their virtual optical centers cancel each other out. The offsets create narrow reception zones that remove image distortions received from the edges of the reflecting surfaces of the pyramid. Reflective pyramids are superimposed on one another or stacked on top of one another to create a higher compression panorama viewer. Using two or more reflective pyramids in close proximity allows for the use of many cameras with the same virtual optical center. Using many cameras divides the large viewing area into many smaller areas where individual cameras view each small area. Since each camera views a small area, improved resolution is provided to the user. The panoramas are mounted to the pillars through their vertices, and the cameras are fixed to some of the extending pillars of the vertices.
