Thiazole substituted benzenesulfonamides are β 3 adrenergic receptor agonists with extremely low β 1 and β 2 adrenergic receptor activity. Thus, these compounds can increase lipolysis and energy consumption in cells. In turn, these compounds have potent activity in treating type II diabetes and obesity. In addition, these compounds can be used to lower triglyceride and cholesterol levels, to increase high-density lipoprotein levels, or to reduce intestinal motility. In addition, these compounds can be used to relieve neurogenic inflammation or to treat depression. These compounds are prepared by combining aminoalkylphenyl-sulfonamides with suitably substituted epoxides. Also described are compositions and methods for using the compounds of the present invention to treat diabetes and obesity, to lower triglyceride and cholesterol levels, to increase high-density lipoprotein levels, or to reduce intestinal motility. |
