titleOfInvention Process for halogenation of isomonoolefin/para-alkylstyrene copolymers
abstract The present invention relates to a process for the halogenation of copolymers of isomonoolefins (eg isobutylene) with 4 to 7 carbon atoms and para-alkylstyrene (eg para-methylstyrene). By carrying out the reaction in the presence of a halogen source and an oxidizing agent (e.g., hydrogen peroxide) which oxidizes the hydrogen halide occurring in situ in the reaction back to the free halogen, the efficiency of the halogenation is increased and the reaction time is reduced.
