titleOfInvention Process for Continuous Production of Polyoxyalkylene Polyethers with Low Unsaturation Due to Continuous Addition of Starting Materials
abstract The process for the continuous production of polyoxyalkylene polyethers using DMC catalysts as polyoxyalkylation catalysts uses the continuous addition of alkylene oxides and the continuous addition of starting materials and catalysts to the continuous oxyalkylation reactor. Despite the continuous introduction of the starting materials, the molecular weight distribution of the polyether product is very narrow, indicating that the polydispersity of the product is very low. The presence of low molecular weight materials during most polyoxyalkylation results in the removal of very high molecular weight fractions with molecular weights of 100,000 Da or more, but with a very low molecular weight distribution. By recovering a medium molecular weight polyether product or converting a portion of the final product to prepare a catalyst / starter mixture, fast and sustained reaction rates can be achieved by using very low molecular weight starting materials. Continuous build rates in excess of 0.98 can be achieved.
