| titleOfInvention | Supported activated carbon composites and method of making same |
| abstract | The present invention is directed to a method of making an activated carbon composite comprising providing a cross-linkable resin and a support material that is readily wetted by the resin. The support material may be cotton, crushed wood, sisal grass, non-modified material and mixtures thereof. The support material is in contact with the resin, and the resin and the support material are dried. Thereafter, the resin and support material are molded, the resin is cured, and the resin and certain carbonizable materials are carbonized. The carbon is then activated to prepare the desired composite. Activated carbon composites produced by the above-described method, in which the carbon is in a continuous structure, are reinforced by non-modified support materials and are thereby distributed uniformly. |
