The precipitate is filtered, washed to remove excess sodium and dried. The dried product is calcined for 1 to 4 hours at the desired temperature of about 700 ° C. to 900 ° C., if it is to be used in powder form. This dry powder is calcined at a temperature of about 400 ° C. to 700 ° C. when it is intended to be used in tablet or extruded form. The addition of various agents can improve the activity in the hydrogenolysis use of the Cu-Al-O catalyst. Cu-Al-O catalysts may be used in place of Cu / Cr or other copper based catalysts in various applications.
