The present invention relates to an absorbent expandable material 46 used in an absorbent article, such as sanitary napkin 20, to concentrate the absorbed liquid in the central region of the absorbent article. In particular, the present invention relates to an absorbent expandable material 46 which, upon absorption, expands more than the absorbed volume of liquid needed to provide additional void volume. Additionally, the present invention relates to absorbent articles, such as infant diapers, adult incontinence products or sanitary napkins, wherein the absorbent core material has the ability to transport liquids well through the thickness of the product other than in the plane of the product. |
