abstract The present invention is a process for the preparation of para-xylene by methylation of toluene in the presence of zeolite bonded zeolite catalysts. The catalyst comprises a first zeolite crystal bonded together by a second zeolite crystal. When used to methylate toluene with para-xylene, zeolite bound zeolite catalysts have greater para-xylene selectivity than thermodynamic equilibrium. This selectivity can be improved by selecting a catalyst.
