The present invention relates to the field of regulation of carbon flow in cellular metabolism. It has been found that inducing changes in the availability of intracellular saccharide trehalose-6-phosphate (T-6-P) leads to alterations in the development and / or composition of cells, tissues and organs in vivo. Such changes can be induced by introducing or inhibiting trehalose phosphate synthase (TPS), which is an enzyme capable of forming T-6-P, and trehalose phosphate phosphatase (TPP), which degrades T-6-P into trehalose. Carbon flow through glycolysis is facilitated by a decrease in intracellular levels of T-6-P. |
