abstract |
The elastomeric composite is provided by a novel continuous flow method and apparatus which feeds particulate filler and elastomeric latex into the mixing zone of the coagulation tank to form a flowable mixture that is continuously refluxed from the mixing zone through the coagulation zone to the discharge end of the reactor. Is generated. The particulate filler fluid is supplied under pressure to the mixing zone to form a jet stream, for example, to introduce the elastomer latex fluid sufficiently powerful to substantially solidify the elastomer with the particulate filler before the discharge end. Highly efficient and effective elastomeric coagulation is achieved without the need for a coagulation step which involves exposure to acid or salt solutions and the like. New elastomeric complexes are produced. The novel elastomeric composites can be cured or uncured and combine material properties such as selection of fillers, elastomers, filler loadings and macro-dispersities that were not previously available. |
