titleOfInvention | Radiation sensitizers and 1,2,4-benzotriazine oxides as selective cytotoxic agents |
abstract | Disclosed are radiation sensitizers and methods of using some 1,2,4-benzotriazine oxides as novel cytotoxic agents. These compounds have been found to specifically sensitize radiation to hypoxic tumor cells. Some are also disclosed as being useful as cytotoxic agents specific for these cells. They also show an unexpected ability to radially sensitize aerobic cells either before or after hypoxic culture of cells with the drug. This provides a basis for selective radiation response of tumors relative to normal cells. A process for the preparation of 1,2,4-benzotriazine oxide is also disclosed. |
