titleOfInvention | Inhibition of Cholesterol Biosynthesis Using Macrolactin-A Produced in Streptomyces Fish Y-401 |
abstract | The present invention relates to a method for inhibiting cholesterol biosynthesis using macrolactin A. More specifically, the present invention relates to a method for inhibiting cholesterol biosynthesis using macrolactin A, which inhibits the activity of squalene synthase, which is a rate controlling step in the in vivo cholesterol biosynthesis process. Since macrolactin A has activity that inhibits squalene synthase in a concentration-dependent manner, inhibiting cholesterol biosynthesis with macrolactin A promotes the synthesis of low density lipoprotein-cholesterol receptors in cells. Eventually, the level of cholesterol in the blood is lowered. In addition, macrolactin A may be developed as a medicament in earnest by clinical trials and the like, and may be used as a preventive and therapeutic agent for cardiovascular diseases such as atherosclerosis and coronary artery disease. |
