titleOfInvention | Ecologically suitable water-based mullite sol, mullite composition and process for preparing the same |
abstract | The present invention relates to novel and ecologically suitable water-based stable mullite precursor sols, mullite composites and methods for their preparation. The mullite precursor sol is synthesized using tetraethoxysilane and aluminum nitrate in water. The tetraethoxysilane is hydrolyzed with water and an ammonium hydroxide catalyst to prepare a silica sol, which is then quenched with an aqueous solution of aluminum nitrate. The mullite precursor sol of the present invention can be used to produce highly compacted ceramic composites. |
