A novel metal compound, a process for its preparation and its use as a catalyst have been described. When used as a catalyst, the metal compound has an efficiency equivalent to Raney cobalt or nickel. More specifically, at least a part of the metal compound is in a reduced state and is at least one selected from the group consisting of chromium, molybdenum, iron, manganese, titanium, vanadium, gallium, indium, bismuth, yttrium, , Lanthanum, and other trivalent Lanthanides. ≪ Desc / Clms Page number 2 > They can be used particularly as a hydrogenation catalyst for the hydrogenation of a variety of nitrogen compounds, preferably nitriles. |
