abstract | Catalytic cracking naphtha is desulfurized with minimal loss of olefins and octane. The naphtha is fed to a first distillation column reactor 10 which acts as a depenterizer or dehexanizer with light material containing most of the olefins and mercaptans boiled in the first distillation zone 11, In one distillation zone 11, mercaptan reacts with diolefins to form sulfides which are removed together with any high boiling sulfur compounds in the sediment. Sediment is subjected to hydrodesulfurization in a second distillation column reactor 20 where the sulfur compound is converted to H 2 S and then removed. Thus, the light fraction containing most of the olefins is not subjected to the more severe hydrogenation conditions of the second reactor 20. |
