abstract | A method for producing a thermoplastic copolymer by copolymerizing an aromatic vinyl monomer, a vinyl cyanide monomer, and a vinyl monomer (a) copolymerizable with the two kinds of monomers, if necessary, wherein at least some or all of the vinyl cyanide monomer is added to the reactor. And start the copolymerization reaction so that when all monomer components are put into the reactor, the weight of the unreacted portion of the aromatic vinyl monomer is greater than the weight of the unreacted portion of the vinyl cyanide monomer. By doing so, the proportion of the vinyl cyanide monomer in the structural unit of the thermoplastic copolymer produced in the later stage of the copolymerization reaction is lowered. Therefore, the present invention makes it possible to provide not only thermoplastic copolymers having excellent physical properties such as excellent heat resistance and good mechanical strength, but also a method for producing such thermoplastic copolymers. |
