abstract | The present invention condensates an aldehyde of formula (III) and an amine derivative of formula (II) in the presence of a solvent to prepare an imine compound of formula (IV) which is an intermediate, and removes a carboxyl protecting group to general formula (I). Formula (I) contains isomers to produce the indicated phenam derivatives. Compound of formula (I) is a beta lactamase inhibitor and is a useful compound that enhances antimicrobial activity when used in combination with an existing antibiotic in a certain ratio. |
