abstract | High viscosity ionomer compounds are prepared from low molecular weight organic copolymers with acid fractions. Compounds of the present invention are high viscosity ionomer salts that are the reaction products of metal bases and low molecular weight acid copolymers. The ionomers are prepared at reduced cycle times and lower reaction temperatures by vigorously mixing the viscous product with a high shear mixer. The process uses lower temperatures and cycle times to produce high viscosity polymers with a reduced number of polymer gels and base particles as well. |
