| abstract | A characteristic absorbent article is disclosed that includes a pair of stretch leg gaskets (38). The leg closure gasket extends along the width of the leg closure gasket and includes a body contact surface 82 that contacts the body of the wearer in use. The outward edge 68 of each leg closure gasket is attached to the longitudinal side portion of the absorbent article along the attachment width 86. The inward edge 66 of each leg closure gasket remains unattached with the longitudinal side portion at least at the crotch portion of the absorbent article along the unattached width 84. The adhesion width of each leg closure gasket in the crotch portion of the absorbent article is at least about 30% of the width of the leg closure gasket. In addition, the absorbent article may include a pair of elastic waist closure gaskets 40, 42. In addition, the absorbent article may include one or more waist flaps 100, 102 that provide additional void volume that facilitates retention of body secretions. |
