titleOfInvention Methods for Improving Adhesion Between Rubber Components
abstract The present invention relates to a method which can be used to improve the adhesion between rubber components. The method of the present invention generally improves the adhesion between two different pre-cured rubber components or improves the adhesion between the pre-cured rubber component and the uncured (un-cured) rubber component Most useful. However, the method of the present invention may also be used to improve the adhesion between two uncured rubber components. The process of the present invention is based on the unexpected finding that low molecular weight trans-1,4-polybutadiene containing rubber compounds can be used to improve the adhesion between rubber components. More specifically, the present invention discloses a method for improving the adhesion between a first component and a second component in a process of manufacturing a cured rubber product,n n n (1) placing an adhesion-promoting rubber composition layer composed of a low molecular weight trans-1,4-polybutadiene rubber between the first rubber component and the second rubber component;n n n (2) bringing the first rubber component into contact with one side of the adhesive-promoting rubber composition layer and contacting the second rubber component with the other side of the adhesion-promoting rubber composition layer; Andn n n (3) curing the first rubber composition, the second rubber composition and the adhesion-promoting rubber composition together under heating and pressurizing conditions to prepare a cured rubber productn n n .
