The present invention provides the conversion of an aromatic hydrocarbon catalyst, preferably toluene to dismutate to produce benzene and xylene, toluene and an aromatic compound having 9 or more carbon atoms per molecule to transalkylation (xylene) Regarding the catalyst used for the preparation, the catalyst of the present invention contains 40 to 90% by weight of mordenite in acid form and 10 to 60% by weight of binder. The mordenite contains 0.1 wt% or less sodium, and the SiO 2 / Al 2 O 3 molar ratio is 70 or more. The catalyst of the invention also further comprises at least one metal of the Periodic Tables VI, VII or VIII of the Periodic Table of Elements, and optionally additional metals belonging to Group III or IV. |
