The present invention relates to an optical sensor, a detector including the optical sensor for optical detection of one or more objects, a method of manufacturing the optical sensor, and various uses of the optical sensor and the detector. The invention also relates to human-machine interfaces, entertainment devices, scanning systems, tracking systems, stereoscopic systems and cameras. The optical sensor 110 includes one or more layers 112 of photoconductive material 114, two or more discrete electrical contacts 136, 136' in contact with the layer 112 of photoconductive material 114, the optical and a cover layer 116 deposited on the layer 112 of conductive material 114, wherein the cover layer 116 is an amorphous layer comprising one or more metal-containing compounds 120. The optical sensor 110 may be supplied as a non-bulky airtight package, despite providing a high degree of protection against possible degradation by moisture and/or oxygen. Additionally, the cover layer 116 can activate the photoconductive material 114 to increase the performance of the optical sensor 110 . Additionally, the optical sensor 110 can be easily fabricated and integrated on a circuit carrier device. |
