abstract | A refractory block configured to surround the outlet alters the flow of molten metal through the outlet within the refractory vessel. The refractory block takes the form of a base through which a main orifice passes and walls extend upwardly around the perimeter of the base. Structural features that may be included in the fire resistant block include: a circumferential lip around the outside of the wall; an inner volume whose radius decreases downward toward the main orifice at the plurality of steps; and a flow opening in the wall, configured to induce swirling in the flow pattern in the interior volume of the refractory block. |
