Provided herein are methods and devices for identifying a cell population comprising effector cells that exert an extracellular effect. In one embodiment, the method comprises maintaining a cell population comprising one or more effector cells in a microreactor, wherein the contents of the microreactor further comprise a population of read particles comprising one or more read particles. step, incubating a population of cells and a population of read particles in a microreactor, assaying the population of cells for the presence of an extracellular effect, wherein the population of read particles, or a subpopulation thereof, directly or indirectly affects the extracellular effect reading, and determining whether one or more effector cells in the cell population exert an extracellular effect on the read particle based on the results of the assay step. If an extracellular effect is measured, the cell population is recovered for further analysis to determine the cell or cells responsible for the effect. |
