abstract |
A process for removing impurities from a crude nitrated aromatic product obtained during the nitration of an aromatic compound. The nitrated aromatic product (1) is purified by treatment with an ammonia wash (102) followed by a caustic wash (104). The nitrophenol-containing wash water (4, 8) is treated to recover dissolved organics and ammonia, and the stripped ammonia wash effluent (10) is incinerated. Carbon dioxide that may have accumulated in the process is purged (12) into a caustic washer (104). |
